Now with heated lady's washroom!

That may seem like an odd headline, but we have had a terrible problem at the Mews with a very cold lady's washroom during the winter months since we started operating in 2005. The problem is the way the theatre was originally built and it has been like this from day 1.

We have some good news ladies. We have found a way to heat that washroom and it is now toasty and warm for your comfort.

Come by and try our lady's washroom and see a movie while you are there. Perhaps buy some popcorn too.

Don't miss Avatar! Ends Thursday!!

One of the downsides of having our spiffy new digital cinema is that we only have one and that means that popular movies sometimes have to leave earlier than we would like. Case in point, Avatar is closing at Encore Oakville on Thursday to make room for Alice in Wonderland 3D. You still have time to catch a 3D screening of this incredibly successful flick. Check it out soon. This is NOT a movie to experience on DVD! Jeff the CEO - Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone

Halton Green Screens Presentation this week: Food Inc.

Halton Greens Screens is proud to present: Food Inc.
Thursday, February 25, 2010 @ Encore Oakville Mews Cinemas
7:00 pm All seats $5.00
www.haltongreenscreens.ca

In Food, Inc., filmmaker Robert Kenner lifts the veil on our nation's food industry, exposing the highly mechanized underbelly that has been hidden from the American consumer with the consent of our government's regulatory agencies, USDA and FDA. Our nation's food supply is now controlled by a handful of corporations that often put profit ahead of consumer health, the livelihood of the American farmer, the safety of workers and our own environment. We have bigger-breasted chickens, the perfect pork chop, herbicide-resistant soybean seeds, even tomatoes that won't go bad, but we also have new strains of E. coli--the harmful bacteria that causes illness for an estimated 73,000 Americans annually. We are riddled with widespread obesity, particularly among children, and an epidemic level of diabetes among adults.

Featuring interviews with such experts as Eric Schlosser (Fast Food Nation), Michael Pollan (The Omnivore's Dilemma, In Defense of Food: An Eater's Manifesto) along with forward thinking social entrepreneurs like Stonyfield's Gary Hirshberg and Polyface Farms' Joel Salatin, Food, Inc. reveals surprising--and often shocking truths--about what we eat, how it's produced, who we have become as a nation and where we are going from here.

Sorry folks, but costs are going up and just like we adjusted our Oakville Tueday pricing recently, we have to do the same for Burlington.

Oakville Tuesday Admission increases to $5.00 as of January 5, 2010

Encore was founded on the principle that you should be able to go to the movies without going broke. Recently, we have decided that our internal policy would be - we want to make it possible to go to the movies without going broke while not going broke ourselves!

Costs are increasing and we have kept our pricing low and absorbed most of the increased costs over the past few years. With rent increases as of January, another minimum wage increase this spring and the so called "business friendly... HA!" HST in the summer, we are now forced to look at ways to cut expenses and increase revenue.

For now, we are only going to adjust our Tuesday discount admission in Oakville from $4/seat to $5/seat effective January 5, 2010. Over the next few weeks, we will be looking at adjustments to our Burlington pricing as well. Even wth these increases, potential increases, we will continue to be the best deal in town and we will always stick to our first principle of making it possble to go to the movies without going broke.

Thank you for your patronage and support in 2009 - we look forward to entertaining you in 2010!
