Walking the talk

| | Comments (0)
Encore Cinemas CEO Jeff Knoll wants to make sure his theatres are as green as possible - and he isn't just talking the talk.

Environmentally friendly cleaners, easy recycling and green choices are a few of the ways Jeff is making a difference in the community.

Check out this short documentary by local filmmakers Ecopartners to find out how Jeff is walking the talk!

Raining cats and dogs

It's time for summer storms, with gusting winds and heavy downpours.

What better way to spend a day that's raining cats and dogs than watching cats and dogs at Encore Cinemas?

That's right, Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore (G) in Digital 3D is hitting Encore Cinemas Oakville this Friday.

In the age-old battle between cats and dogs, one crazed feline has taken things a paw too far. Kitty Galore, formerly an agent for cat spy organization MEOWS, has gone rogue and hatched a diabolical plan to not only bring her canine enemies to heel, but take down her former kitty comrades and make the world her scratching post. Faced with this unprecedented threat, cats and dogs will be forced to join forces for the first time in history in an unlikely alliance to save themselves -- and their humans.

And if Cats & Dogs inspires you to want a pet at home, make sure you visit the Oakville and Milton Humane Society, where over 300 cats and nearly 20 dogs are looking for their forever homes!

You can also show Oakville that you love us by voting us the NUMBER ONE place to see BIG MOVIES at small prices in their annual Readers Choice awards!

Even if it isn't raining cats and dogs, we hope to see you soon at Encore Cinemas!

Talk about timing

| | Comments (0)
Twenty or thirty years ago, a game of spy versus spy between the Russians and Americans was commonplace. These days? Not likely.

Or is it?

In a bout of incredible timing, six Russian spies were sent back to the Motherland from America only weeks before Angelina Jolie's latest action-packed flick, Salt (PG), is released - this Friday at Encore Cinemas Oakville.salt.jpg

"As a CIA officer, Evelyn Salt (Jolie) swore an oath to duty, honor and country. Her loyalty will be tested when a defector accuses her of being a Russian spy. Salt goes on the run, using all her skills and years of experience as a covert operative to elude capture. Salt's efforts to prove her innocence only serve to cast doubt on her motives, as the hunt to uncover the truth behind her identity continues and the question remains: 'Who Is Salt?'"

If Russian spies isn't your game, try Leonardo DiCaprio's latest project, Inception (PG), a dream thriller directed by Christopher Nolan.

Of course, Encore Cinemas is always proud to host the world's finest family movies, including Despicable Me (PG) starring the voice of funny-man Steve Carrell, and Romana and Beezus (G), based on the best-selling books by Beverly Cleary.

Whether you're into action, spies, mind-bending thrillers or just an affordable, fun family outing, Encore Cinemas has what you're looking for with BIG MOVIES for small prices.

BIG movies = BIG message

Looking to get your message out in a BIG way? At Encore Cinemas, we pride ourselves on BIG MOVIES for small prices, and this means a BIG opportunity for you!

We've officially launched our pre-show advertising program, meaning businesses can get their advertisement in front of captive audiences in a BIG way - we're talking tens of thousands of square feet of message here.

This is a great opportunity for any business of any size to advertise their product or service, and we strongly encourage you to contact Adfilms (www.adfilms.com) to get the details on how you can take part in the Encore Cinemas pre-show advertising program.

For our favourite guests, we also want to reassure you that our mission to be a family-oriented business will ensure that all advertising will meet the highest quality standards so that everyone can enjoy them. Our pre-show features trivia, low-level music and sound, and unlike those other theatres, they won't push back the actual start time of your film.

We look forward to seeing you soon in a BIG way!

BIG MOVIES at Burlington

When we say BIG MOVIES, we mean BIG MOVIES.

The proof, as they say, is in the pudding (or delicious Encore Cinemas popcorn).

This week at Encore Cinemas' Burlington location, summer is hitting BIG.

The A-Team (PG) starring the legendary Liam Neeson, new it-boy Bradley Cooper and MMA super star Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson, is the real definition of a summer blockbuster. The movie follows a group of grisly special forces soldiers through an action-packed - and at times, hilarious - adventure while trying to clear their names.

One of the most legendary characters of all time, Robin Hood (PG), returns to the silver screen in a new self-titled flick. Starring Russell Crowe as the legend and directed by a legend of almost equal status, Ridley Scott, Robin Hood is full of adventure, romance and destiny.

He's big, he's green, he's ugly, and he's back.  Shrek Forever After (PG) is the final installment in the hit family franchise with an ensemble cast starring Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, Eddie Murphy, Antonio Banderas and Julie Andrews. If you're looking for a great family movie, it doesn't get much better than this!

Come check out the year's summer blockbusters with us and enjoy BIG MOVIES for small prices at Encore Cinemas!

Thank you Oakville!

We hope to see you soon for BIG MOVIES at small prices!

A little bit of Canada

Happy Canada Day!

Encore Cinemas is a proud Canadian company, and we show it by offering as many Canadian-made flicks as we can get our hands on.

Most recently you may have seen Paul Gross starring in the outrageous spaghetti-western Gunless, or the inspirational Terry at our Terry Fox fundraiser earlier this year. trotskyEncoreFilm.jpg

But if you're in the mood for some Canadiana right now, check out Jacob Tierney's The Trotsky (14A). Starring the up-and-coming Canadian Jay Baruchel alongside the beautiful and talented Liane Balaban and Emily Hampshire, the Trotsky follows Leon Bronstein (Baruchel) as he tries to live up to his hero (and the man he believes he's a reincarnate of) Leon Trotsky.

"When his father sends Leon to public school as punishment for starting a hunger strike at Papa's clothing factory, Leon quickly lends new meaning to the term 'student union', determined as he is to live out his pre-ordained destiny to the fullest and change the world."

Encore Cinemas, a proud Canadian company, wishes you and your family a Happy Canada Day and we hope to see you soon for BIG MOVIES at small prices.
