June 2010 ArchivesIt's only the first week of
summer and the blockbuster hits are already
arriving at Encore Cinemas. If you're in trouble, if no one else can help you, and if you can find them, you should watch The A-Team. The 80s classic is back, on the big screen, with some of today's biggest names and biggest action! Starring Liam Neisen, Bradley Cooper and former MMA champion Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson, The A-Team has everything a summer blockbuster should have: laughs, action, suspense and cheesy catch phrases. The best part? It's only PG so the whole family can enjoy this remake. The Grown-Ups, a comedy from the twisted mind of Adam Sandler, showcases a cast of Saturday Night Live alumni and some of today's top comedic performers. Knight & Day brings the super star duo of Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz together on the silver screen for what can only be dubbed a comedy-action-suspense-laugh-out-loud-fiesta-of-fun. The Kung-fu modernization of the Karate Kid with Jackie Chan and up-and-comer Jaden Smith is a retelling of the 1980s cult classic in which a young boy, displaced and alone, learns self-discipline and self-defense from an unexpected new friend. And could summer be complete without... (drum roll please!) Toy Story 3! The third movie in the smash hit Toy Story franchise is out and critics and moviefans alike saying Disney/Pixar saved the best for last! Follow the toys as they move out of Andy's old room and into a whole new world in amazing digital 3D! Looking for a way to spend summer days? Encore Cinemas is proud to introduce the Encore Movie Star, our lovable character who will soon be popping up all over the place! Below is the 100 per cent, totally accurate story of how the Encore Movie Star came to be.
It was late Saturday night, once all the theatres had closed, and Jeff Knoll, CEO Encore Cinemas, was putting away the last of the recycling. As he tossed the bag, he heard a little 'Oomph!' "Who's there?" he asked. "No one!" shouted a little voice, muffled by the recycling. Jeff didn't know what to do. So he quietly closed the doors to Encore Cinemas and pretended to walk away. He crouched down next to the bin and waited. What came next made his jaw drop. A dim light began rising out of the bin, pushing aside newspapers and plastic bottles. "Aha!" shouted Jeff, pouncing out to see who was prowling in his recycling bin. But it wasn't anyone, or anything, Jeff had ever seen before. "Don't hurt me!" squeaked the voice. A little star, with big eyes and quivering lips tried to cower behind a CineView flyer. "Who're you?" asked Jeff. "I'm a star," said the star, without a hint of sarcasm. "Oh. Well, star," Jeff said, "what are you doing in my recycling?" "I wanted to watch a movie but you don't have any windows in your theatre," explained the star. "But you're a star, why do you want to watch movies?" Jeff pondered. "Who wouldn't want to watch movies," queried the dim star, poking itself higher out of the dumpster. "There's laughter and smiles and fun!" Jeff couldn't believe it, but the more the star talked about movies, the brighter it got! "Star, why did you get so bright?" he asked. "Because I just love the movies!" it squealed, zipping out of the bin and zooming around Jeff, leaving a trail of star dust floating around him. Jeff put a finger to his lips and thought a moment. "Well star," he said, "I always wanted to see the milky way. Maybe if you show me, you can come see a movie." With that, Jeff flew straight up into the air like a rocket ship, the star pulling him by the ears, up, up and up higher than he'd ever been before. ![]() Not so much later, they finally landed outside of Encore Cinemas again. "Whew!" Jeff said, wiping milky-way-dust off his sleeves. "That's some milky way! You just made my dream come true!" The star beamed at Jeff, growing brighter by the moment. "You can come see a movie any time you want!" And with a big bang, the star squealed and shot straight up above Jeff, way above Encore and did a little jig in the night sky. The star does come down to visit Jeff now and then, and once everyone else has gone home, they watch the latest movie and laugh only the way two best friends can laugh. Next time you're at Encore Cinemas, if you look up, way up, you might just see the Encore Movie Star smiling down, waiting to see the next big movie. Keep your eyes open for the Encore Movie Star kids' flyer too, updated monthly with a theme that YOU get to choose!
