Encore will be diplaying YouthTarget.Ca posters in both theatres, running their ads in our pre-show ad loop in Oakville and distributing free music download cards (limited quantities).
Thanks to TS for writing to let me know the blog commenting system was not working. I had just assumed nobody was commenting but now I discover the software was not configured correctly.
Good news is that it all works now. You will have to register to post a comment, but you can get in on the discussion today! Jeff the CEO
I wish I could add a few hundred seats, but sadly HP is sold out for our special midnight show. We tried to add a 3:00 AM show, but our staff threatened to cast an evil spell on my cat if I do it, so I relented.
Magically, we have added a special 9:15 AM performance that is ONLY advertised on the web and on our telephone service - so if you are looking for an Early Hogwarts fix, buy your tickets NOW at this link. Encore Oakville needs your vote... again! Oakville Beaver 2009 Reader's Choice Awards are underway!!
It is time to defend
our title as BEST MOVIE THEATRE IN OAKVILLE! As you may recall, we have
won that title from both the Oakville Beaver in 2008 and North Oakville Today
in 2009 - but now it is time to vote again to help us retain the coveted
position as "The Best". To achieve this honour for a second year, we
need your votes! Not just one vote, but as many as you, your family and friends
and cast.
Unlike
the Oakville Today Awards where voting was allowed by internet, voting for The
Beaver's awards has to be done on the official paper ballots contained within
the pages of each edition of the Oakville Beaver. Ballots will appear in each
issue for the duration of the contest. Each ballot must be completed with a
minimum 10 nominations in as many categories - we hope that you will consider
voting for us with each ballot you receive! Full instructions on the actual
ballot in the Beaver! We are going to try and secure some extra ballots
and keep them at the theatre in case you do not get The Beaver at your door.
Ok, this is likely the weirdest blog posting I have ever written, but here it goes. We deeply apologize for opening "Bruno" and we want to strongly warn you that this movie is rude, obscene, tasteless and, in my opinion, pretty much a waste of the celluloid it is printed on. While I understand that there are people who will find it very funny and enjoy this film, I strongly suggest that you fully understand what you are getting into before you buy a ticket and take your seat. Our managers often watch our new films the night before opening and I happened to be in the building at the time so I popped in to catch a few minutes before heading off to my next chore. I could not take more than five minutes of the movie before having to leave and "wash my eyes". Those who stayed said the most offensive bits are in the first 10 minutes, but that is little solace for me as I have to live the rest of my life having witnessed this cinematic atrocity. If we could simply cancel the engagement and leave the auditorium dark, I would in a heartbeat but unfortunately we are under contract for two weeks and we are stuck with it. Two important points:
So, on behalf of everyone at Encore Cinemas all I can say is sorry. To our Burlington customers who eagerly await movies in second run - we will NOT be playing Bruno at Encore Burlington... ever. Jeff the CEO It seems The Globe and
Mail has decided to only carry our listings on Fridays and we, and many
of our guests, are not happy about this! After years of trying to
convince the Globe staff to change this policy, we have written a
letter to Mr. Phillip Crawley the Publisher and CEO. We sure would
appreciate the help of our guests and friends to help us convince Mr.
Crawley to reverse his staff's decision.
What is most upsetting is that we only get our listings on Fridays yet our competitors get listings everyday. This is unfair and biased towards the chain cinemas. We believe that listings, which are provided for free, should be equally available to all theatres and not just the Corporate giant. Letter to Phillip Crawley.pdf and then consider writing one your self and sending it by e-mail to: pcrawley@globeandmail.com or express your support verbally by calling his office at 416-585-5000 (this is the main switchboard - simply ask for his office). If you are a subscriber/reader - make sure you include that in your communication. |
