January 2009 Archives

We are launching something new at Encore Oakville this week - Halton Green Screens!  This new film series is being offered in partnership with a group of environmentalists to raise awareness of "green" issues utilizing film and video as a vehicle for education. More information is available on their website at www.haltongreenscreens.ca . We are pleased to offer the first in the series "The 11th Hour" on Thursday, January 22, 2009 - one showing only at 7:00 pm.

Produced and narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio, "this captivating documentary explores the perilous state of our planet, and the means by which we can change our course.  Contributing to this crucial film are noted politicians, scientists and other ambassadors for the importance of a universal ecological consciousness.

Following the film, there will be discussion of the issues raised. More information on the movie can be found here.

In December 2008, we offered a screening of the independent documentary "Garbage" to an almost two theatre capacity audience giving us a clear indication of the interest in the community to engage in green issues through film. Encore Cinemas is committed to proactive environmental action and in addition to the green initiatives we have undertaken at our theatres, we are thrilled to be a partner in this exciting new program. All proceeds from ticket sales ($5.00 per seat) go to defray the costs of presenting the series.

We'll see you... at the (GREEN) movies...

There will be no Oakville Toonie kids movies for the next few weeks while we give our managers and staff a break and let them sleep in on the weekends after the LONG hours over the holiday season just past.  We will return with more Toonie fun late January or early February!
